Guwahati: A West Bengal police team which is probing the death of Faizan Ahmed, a student of IIT-Kharagpur hailing from Tinsukia in Assam, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his hostel room on October 14 last year is slated to reach Assam’s Dibrugarh soon following an order by the Calcutta High Court.

The team will exhume the body of the student and send it again for conducting a post-mortem for the second time following the court order.

Dibrugarh Additional SP (HQ) Bitul Chetia on Sunday said, “Till now the team has not reached Dibrugarh nor they have communicated with us. We are expecting them to reach soon. Most likely they will contact us tomorrow morning. We will provide every help to the team and ensure that the High Court order is carried out.”

It may be mentioned here that while the IIT- Kharagpur authorities have termed Faizan Ahmed’s death as a case of suicide, Faizan’s family on the other hand have cried foul and claimed that he was in fact murdered. The entire matter is under the cognizance of the Calcutta High Court.

The high court on April 25 said a second post- mortem is “vital and necessary for arriving at the truth”.

The body of the victim has been buried as per Muslim rites at the Amolapatty Kabarsthan in Dibrugarh, Assam.

The Calcutta High Court ordered the body of the victim Faizan Ahmed to be exhumed.

“The investigating officer in the matter shall coordinate with the Assam Police and ensure that the human remains are exhumed, brought to Kolkata by the State Police and a fresh post- mortem is conducted,” the court ordered.
