Ahmedabad, 02 September, 2011: Timbor Home Ltd, a leading manufacturer and retailer of furniture and modular kitchens, has further strengthened its integrated business model by setting up a forestry (plantation) project so as to source wood for its in-house requirements. At the other end of its integrated model, the company’s retail outlets have grown to over 100 stores across 18 states and 72 cities.
Wood is the core raw material for all Timbor Home products and keeping a long term view, the company has integrated backwards and has gone in for plantation of fast growing hard wood species for captive consumption. It will also avail of carbon credits in the future.
Giving details about the plantation project, Mr. Anant Maloo, chairman and MD of Timbor Home said, “Timbor Home is now the only player in the Indian furniture industry to be fully integrated from having its own plantation, treatment of wood facilities, manufacturing and then retailing through its own and franchise stores.”
“The company has taken 60 acres land on long lease and has planted 30,000 saplings of biotech generated timber wood. The company plans to expand the plantation over an area of 2500 acres in the next 3 years. As the world market is showing preference for plantation timber products and advocating sustainable resources, timber is getting scarce worldwide and the price of wood continues to increase. We feel this initiative will be one of the best investments the company has made,” he added.
The hard wood species is a fast growing versatile species which can be used for manufacturing furniture, plywood, joinery and all kinds of wood work. It is set to replace other wood which is currently being imported. Growers are likely to get a much higher remuneration from it than through other forestry means, as the trees are fully grown and start giving yield in 5-6 years.
This hard wood specie is the foundation for ecologically sustainable communities. As the plants are fast-growing deciduous trees, they provide shade, valuable hardwood and create ideal microclimates for growing a wide variety of food crops. This specie has been successfully grown in China, Israel, Australia and India.
Mr. Maloo further said, “Timbor Home has been aggressively growing its retail reach and it has now over 100 stores spread over 18 states and 72 cities. It additionally has 6 large format company-owned stores for kitchens and furniture. The company has also been awarded the prestigious FSC certification by the Forest Stewardship Council, USA, certifying that the company’s products are manufactured using timber from sustainable sources and are certified Green. The Timbor Cucine brand of the company for modular kitchen was rated as the Kitchen Retailer of the year 2011 at the India Kitchen Congress in New Delhi.”
Timbor Home operates as a manufacturer-retailer having a pan-India presence with exclusive stores of kitchen, door and furniture retail outlets. It has three manufacturing units: one located at Changodar in Ahmedabad district, the second unit at Vatva GIDC, Ahmedabad and the third at Umreth, in Anand district.
Company markets its products under the brand names ‘Timbor Cucine’ for modular kitchens, ‘Timbor Doors’ for doors & door frames, ‘Timbor Home’ for home furniture and ‘IKI Kitchens’ for hi-end kitchen solutions using ‘Hettich’ hardware and accessories.
